Summers are hot in Kentucky

This summer we are trying to organize our studio space and home so we can be more creative. We have a garage studio and attic studio and in the summer this means really hot studios...but thank goodness there are large plastic pools! We have to find room for it but our studio pool is about to be inflated...

Atlanta Decor Art and Framing Expo

Chris and I drove to Atlanta this past week for the Decor expo and were impressed by the volume of artists and suppliers of our industries. Our feet were very tired but our minds were filed with lots of ideas about new tools and artists design and presentaion of showspace. We have to regroup and figure out what we need to focus on in the coming months and we have ideas aplenty...more to follow... Now I am working on a childrens book called "Red", here's the cover...SOLD

California Dreamin'

Thw whole family ( including our dog Belle) piled into the car and drove three days to get to the World Sci Fi and Fantasy convention in California this August. We took a few side trips to see the Grand Canyon and the Very Large Array in New Mexico and enjoyed the wide open vistas of the west. We drove through the Mojave desert and were relieved to find a gas station as we began to get nervous about running out of gas. The West coast seems like another planet compaired to our woodsy and green Kentucky but we enjoyed every moment of the experience. We swam in the Pacific ocean at Laguna Beach, perhaps the most beautiful beach I have ever seen and ate doughnut holes on the beach in Long Beach. Chris and Nicholas body surfed while I and Belle walked in the surf. Chris didn't win the Chesley this time but we made a great sale and met a lot of very cool people at the convention. We are scheming for a reason to go back out west again.

World Fantasy Convention 2005

The Hills went to the World Fantasy Convention in Madison Wisconsin this past weekend . Chris won Best 3-D for and sold a piece called "WoodBone". It is a dragon sitting in the woods made of bark and found objects. Woodbone will be shipped to California soon to its new home in the hands of a fantasy art collector. I am very proud of Chris and will miss "Woodbone" but I am glad he will be going into a fine colletion of Fantasy Art. Chris has already devised plans for his next project and will begin his new work this week. The Hills are also about to try their hand at a collaborative piece...always a difficult task but it should be fun.
P.S.Chris was just nominated for a Chesley Award for this piece! Vote for Chris and Woodbone on your ASFA ballots. Thanks
